The Quality of Our Offerings
Leviticus 22:24 - "Ye shall not offer unto the Lord that which is bruised, or crushed, or broken, or cut; neither shall ye make any offering thereof ..."
Why was God so particular about our offerings? There are at least two reasons:
- God wants us to give our best to Him. Too often, however, people are in the habit of giving God the leftovers. That is an insult to God. God wants our first not our last. The manner in which we give communicates God's worth to us. Jesus clearly says in Matthew 6:21 "For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also." When God sacrificed His Son, He gave us His best. He commands those of us who love Him to do the same.
- Our manner of giving to Him is the means in which he chooses to bless us. Malachi 3:10 "Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it."
Luke 6:38 "Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again."
